President U Htin Kyaw held talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on several issues in Phnom Penh yesterday including resumption of a direct flight and avoiding double taxation between the two countries.
President U Htin Kyaw, who is on a four-day state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, and Mr Samdech Techo Hun Sen discussed promoting cooperation in the tourism sector between the two countries as Myanmar’s ancient Bagan and Cambodia’s Siem Reap have been established as sister cities.
The two sides discussed the resumption of the direct flight which was operated by Myanmar between the two historic cities.
The two leaders also pledged to promote cooperation not only between the two governments but also between the peoples of the two countries and to promote cultural exchange, which will include language and literature.
The meeting also discussed signing an agreement on preventing double taxation as part of efforts for promoting the trade sector of the two countries.
The discussions also included matters related to giving assistance from Myanmar to Cambodia for promotion of Buddhism and holding meetings of the joint-commission of the two countries.
Following the meeting, President U Htin Kyaw met with Myanmar diplomats, MPs, scholars and members of the Cambodia-Myanmar Friendship Association, businessmen and Myanmar nationals in Cambodia.
At the meeting, he called on them to obey the laws in Cambodia as they are living in the country.
He has also urged Myanmar families in Cambodia to make use of their knowledge and experiences gained in Cambodia for the development of Myanmar when they return to their home country.
In the afternoon, the Myanmar delegation led by President U Htin Kyaw left for Siem Reap by special flight and visited the Angkor National Museum.
