Investigation Commission writing full report on Maungtaw

As a result of its third fact-finding mission, the Investigation Commission on Maungtaw, Rakhine State, said it has settled several issues including resettlement and free movement of the Muslim community in conflict areas in northern Rakhine.

At the meeting of the commission yesterday in Yangon following its third mission to northern Rakhine State, Chairman and Vice-President U Myint Swe urged the members of the commission to discuss the issues openly in order to ensure a full report and to suggest long-term plans for Rakhine State to create job opportunities and boost the economy in the state.
The commission divided into groups and visited the villages mentioned in the report the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and separately addressed the findings and accusations in the report.
At the request of the commission, the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs also formed commissions investigating the accusations.

At the meeting, members of the commission discussed the facts they found during the visit and the writing of the full-text report.
The meeting was attended by commission members U Aung Kyi, U Tun Myat, Dr Daw Thet Thet Zin, U Nyunt Swe, U Saw Thalay Saw, Daw Kyein Ngai Man, Dr Hla Maung, U Thar Nyan, Police Maj-Gen Zaw Win, U Aung Naing and secretary of the commission U Zaw Myint Pe and other officials.
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) released a report on the situations of human rights in northern Rakhine State on 3rd February 2017, in which it alleged that human rights abuses were occurring.
