Representatives of ethnic groups arrive for meetings at the Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

The Peace Process Steering Team comprised of eight signatories to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement discussed the political, economic, social, land and environment and security sectors yesterday.
“Currently, we are discussing the wording in the political sector, including the names of parts of the Union. We have not yet finished the issue of the Federation Union,” said Khun Myint Tun, Chairman of the Pa-O National Liberation Organization. “We need to take time for the security sector. We must discuss it until we reach agreement,” he said.
Among the five sectors, the political and security sectors became hot issues at yesterday’s meeting, he said.
In the political sector, there are 21 points to be submitted to the Union Peace Conference-21st Century Panglong.
In the security sector, the representatives have discussed the “Only one Tatmadaw” issue.
For the security sector, there will be one paper from the group of the government, Hluttaw and the Tatmadaw, one from the ethnic armed organisations’ group and one from the political parties’ group.
“Today’s meeting is the group discussion after our sector-wise discussion. The outcomes from today’s meeting will be discussed at the UPDJC tomorrow,” said Khun Myint Tun.
The eight signatories to the NCA are the Chin National Front (CNF), the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF), the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), the Karen National Union (KNU), the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army (Peace Council) (KNU/KNLA PC), the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), and the Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO).
