Dr Than Myint, the Union Minister for Commerce and Chairman of the Motor Vehicle Importing Supervisory Committee, attended the motor vehicle importing supervisory committee meeting 3/2017 at the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
“We have already allowed the import of 587,402 vehicles as of May this year. And we also formed the inspection teams to check automobile sale centres and showrooms to see if they obey the prescribed procedures and we will take action legally. We should reduce the importing of vehicles and encourage manufacturing of vehicles at home. We have been able to facilitate import of vehicles, registration of vehicles and imposition of taxes with the cooperation of respective departments under the motor vehicle importing supervisory committee,” said Dr Than Myint. During the meeting, the permanent secretaries and the directors-general from the Ministries concerned discussed matters relating to their respective sectors.
