Education Policy Commission meeting in progress.

THE NATIONAL Education Policy Commission (NEPC) commenced its meeting (1/2016) at the office of NEPC in Yangon yesterday, with the opening addresses by Dr. Myo Myint, chairman and Dr Nyi Hla Nge, vice-chairman of the commission.
In the opening address, Dr Myo Myint said: ‘’The education sector is related to development of all other sectors. This formation of NEPC will help develop other sectors in return. This commission is a free institution which consists of scholars with a chairman and vice-chairman elected by all members, unlike the previous ones. Responsibilities to be performed by the commission include: laying down national education targets and educational principles; assignment of duties to newly-formed curriculum committee; assessment committee for national education status and quality assurance; consulting bodies for acquiring subvention from government and local administrative bodies; policy making for acceptance of monetary aids and subsidies from home and abroad; laying down policy on opening and closing schools; submission of reports on 6-month activities to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and the Union Government.
Afterward, the Director-General of the Education Ministry and related ministries discussed the implementation of education projects and legislation of educational policies. It is learnt that an educational process to be prioritized by NEPC will be discussed on 18 October.
