Trade through Maungtaw border land point of entry between Myanmar and Bangladesh earned more than US$4 million in the first half of this year.
Maungtaw trade slowed due to conflicts and attacks in October 2016, but trade has since resumed.
The Maungtaw checkpoint trade in the first half of the year consisted of 90 per cent exports and 10 per cent imports, said U Aung Myint Thein, the chairman of Maungtaw Border Trade Merchants Association.
The main export items at Maungtaw gate are ginger, peanuts, mung bean, dried plums, garlic, rice from agriculture products, saltwater prawn and hilsa fish. Also exported are bamboo from forest products, blankets, candy, plum jam, footwear, and Tun Shwe Wah ointment.
