The Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance U Maung Maung Win described to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw yesterday a bill that would amend a commercial tax law last amended in 2015.
The new amendment would reform Myanmar’s laws to include a value added tax and new fines to improve enforcement of the existing commercial tax code.
The deputy minister also described the Revenue Appellate Tribunal Bill, which is intended to rationalize Myanmar’s tax payment and establish a formal appeals process.
“The bill was drafted five times between 2014 and July 2016 and comments and suggestions were obtained from Union Attorney-General office and relevant departments in numerous coordination meetings,” said the deputy minister. “The bill will ensure high quality tax management in order to gain the trust of the tax payers and to give equal and fair opportunities to citizens and tax payers in paying tax,” said U Maung Maung Win.
The deputy minister also pledged that the bill would allow the people to get the full rights provided under the law when it is enacted into a law. The hluttaw also decided to amend Christian Marriage Act, which had been marked up by the President.
