The Myanmar Democracy Festival is being planned for the country and its people to promote high morality and esteem and to support the establishment of democratic practices and thoughts, festival planners said Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint.
A work coordination meeting to hold the Myanmar Democracy Festival with movie shows, anyeint (traditional dance troupes) and dances was held yesterday morning at Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) meeting hall on Pyay Road, Yangon and was attended by Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint.
In his opening address to the meeting, the Union Minister said the Myanmar Democracy Festival week came about after plans to produce a movie. As artists from movie, music and anyeint professions pitched in to help, shows, anyeint and dances were arranged to be included in the festival to make it an impressive event. There will be an opening ceremony on 15 September to be held with the country’s leaders and artists in attendance.
“Everything is ready to hold the Myanmar Democracy Festival. As the preparation works are systematically conducted through forming of steering committee and sub-committees, it is believed that the works are progressing well. Thus, all are invited to openly discuss on the work done and the work that still needs to be done”, said the Union Minister.
Dance event work committee chairman U Myint Htwe, Director General of MRTV, opening ceremony and movie show work committee chairman U Maung Pe, Director General of the Information and Public Relations Department, anyeint competition work committee chairman U Ye Tun, MRTV Director (MI), director Maung Thi, Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation Chairman U Lu Min, Myanmar Music Association Chairman U Tin Oo Lay, Myanmar Thabin Association Chairman U Phoe Chit and meeting attendees discussed their respective sectors, after which the Union Minister delivered a concluding speech.
The Myanmar Democracy Festival will be held from September 15 to 21 and opening ceremonies will be held in President Cinema, Yangon and Winlite Cinema, Mandalay.
During the Myanmar Democracy Festival period, five movies — “Naychi Mhar Shweyi Laung”, “Thara Sawhtee”, Demo Yakkwak”, “Tain Pyar thaw Nay” and “Kyi Myat thaw Myanmar” — will be shown in 44 cinemas throughout the country. Prominent celebrities will also entertain with dance, music and song performances that will be held in Yangon National Theatre on 15 and 16 September from 7 pm to 11 pm.
Myanmar Democracy Anyeint competitions will be held in Yangon National Theatre from 27 to 30 August and in Mandalay National Theatre from 28 to 30 August. Five anyeint troupes will compete every day and seven finalists will each be awarded a prize of Ks1 million.
Ten prizes consisting of first, second, and third-place prizes, two consolation prizes, best troupe prize, best lead female dancer, best comedian, best band and audience selected best Anyeint troupe prizes will be awarded.
