The second day of the Myanmar Pearl Auction (August-2017) organised by the Myanma Pearl Enterprise, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, was held in Myanma Gem Museum in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Starting in the morning, local and foreign pearl merchants and jewelry merchants viewed the displayed pearls and submitted their tenders.
At noon, tender number 1 consisting of lots 1 to 90 was closed and successful tenderers were announced. At 4 pm, tender number 2 consisting of lots 91 to 180 were closed and an announcement was made for successful tenderers.
Tender number 3 for lots 181 to 270 will be closed at 20 August noon and successful tenderers will be announced shortly thereafter. In yesterday’s tender 1 and 2, 178 lots of pearls and jewelry were sold.
“In Myanmar pearl and jewelry sales, each tender will consist of 90 lots and a total of 270 lots will be sold. There are a total of 86,914 pearls and will be displayed and sold under a tender system. The event is attended by jewelry merchants from countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Thailand and India as well as local jewelry merchants. Sales to foreign jewelry merchants are in Euro while sales to local jewelry merchants in Myanmar Kyat”, said Daw Mya Mya Win, Assistant General Manager, Myanma Pearl Enterprise.
“Myanmar pearls are the best quality in the world. Only a handful of countries are producing pearls and none are of the quality of Myanmar pearl. Myanmar’s natural resources are valuable and high-value quality pearls are produced. That is why countries are investing in Myanmar pearl oyster breeding. As local jewelry merchants were permitted to purchase in Myanmar kyats, it is very convenient. Nowadays, Myanmar pearls are famous around the world,” said pearl and jewelry merchant Ko Kan Hein.
