Workshop on access to news and information held in Nay Pyi Taw

A workshop on challenges in accessing news and information was held in at Ministry of Information in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pe Myint, Union Minister for Information, underscored the responsibility of the governmental departments to deliver information to the public.
“Journalists are never satisfied with the news they already have,” said Dr Pe Myint. “In terms of governmental departments, they are responsible to deliver news and information to the public. As for newsmen, they are to find out our weaknesses while pointing out and criticising the three Pillars of the State to the best of their calibre. It is a favorable advantage for the governmental departments to gather facts and figures and reproduce them when they interview them, he added.
“It is a success for a media man to publicise what no one knows, so they are to glean as much as they can, and simultaneously to make it known to the public without delay”, he added.
The meeting was also attended by dignitaries from the office of Union Government, spokespersons from the Supreme Court and Ministries and
responsible officials.
The workshop released its 12-point outcome which highlighted the duties of the spokespersons, ethics for news editing, the importance of building trust between the government and media, restrictions on media personnel due to security, posting news releases on the websites of ministries so that media personnel can get information they want to know, assigning court reporters at the Supreme Court and lower courts, timely release of information to the public and seeking permission from the respective heads of the courts to interview the accused and plaintiffs in the compound of a court.— Myanmar News Agency
