Yusen Logistics’s refrigerated warehouse under construction in Thilawa SEZ

Japan-based Yusen Logistics is constructing a refrigerated warehouse in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) situated in Southern Yangon to facilitate the cold storage logistics infrastructure for perishable foods, it is learnt from an announcement released by Nikkei.
The company is building the warehouse on 6,200 square metres of land. The warehouse is slated to start operation in July, 2017.
The warehouse will have sophisticated temperature management, which is critical for cold storage. Foods can be stored in three different temperatures — 15C to 20C, 5C and -20C, it is learnt.
“Myanmar looks promising, with more economic opportunities and possessing a production base”, said Shoji Murakami, the senior managing executive officer at Yusen Logistics.
The Myanmar market is quickly growing and attracting an increasing amount of foreign direct investment, but the lack of sophisticated cold storage infrastructure has caused problems for entrepreneurs dealing in perishable foods.—Mon Mon
