WATERMELONS are being sold, according to a report of the Myawady Daily issued on Sunday.
A Taiwan watermelon is currently worth between Ks1,500 and 3,500, said
Nyein Nyein Phyo, a wholesaler from Yangon’s Thirimingala Market.
Trade at Muse, Myanmar’s main land port of entry into China, drives watermelon demand.
Domestic demand is focused on Thirimingala Market, which sells watermelons shipped from Meiktila and Thazi.
Watermelons are cultivated throughout the country, except in Kayah and Chin states. The country commercially cultivates non-native species of watermelon including Taiwan and Thailand varieties.—GNLM
