Authorities are choosing the plots of land to construct international-standard parking lots on Yangon-Mandalay highway, according to a report in the Myawady Daily yesterday.
The rest camps will be constructed with an aim for travellers to take a rest in their ride and to reduce traffic accidents. The authorities are planning to build at least two parking lots at the suitable mileposts. The spacious parking lots will include restaurants and convenient stores.
“Currently, there are not enough parking lots. So, the vehicles have to park on the road side, which can cause the road accidents. So, we are planning to construct more parking lots,” said U Aung Ko Oo, the assistant director of highway maintenance office. Each parking lot can accommodate ten express buses and 35 home-use cars. A temporary parking lots which was constructed by the ministry of construction was opened at milepost No. 76 on Yangon-Mandalay Highway road on 26 August.
