Department of Meteorology and Hydrology issued an orange storm alert yesterday evening as a depression forming in the Bay of Bengal is moving towards Myanmar.
A depression prevailing in the east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to further intensify into a cyclone within 48 hours as from yesterday evening, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
The announcement of the weather bureau said yesterday that the depression moved to East-North East direction and located at the area about 240 miles south-west of the Coco Island, about 360 miles south-west of Pathein, 440 miles south-west of Yangon and 235 miles west-north-west of Port Blair of India.
The weather bureau said in its 7 pm announcement yesterday that rain with thunder is expected within 24 hours as from yesterday at 3 pm over Ayeyawady Region, Taninthayi Region, Kayin State, Mon State, Bago Region and Yangon Region, with isolated rain fall in Rakhine and remaining regions and states. Heavy rain fall is also expected over parts of Taninthayi Region and Mon State, with 80 degree of certainty.
The depression can give big waves with surface wind of 35 miles per hour in the sea closing with the Ayeyawady Delta, Martaban gulf, along the Taninthayi Coast and off shore in Myanmar’s sea.
