The last rites for State Ovadacariya Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Dhammathaya Sayadaw was held yesterday morning at his monastery in Mingaladon Township in Yangon Region.
The ceremony was attended by State Ovadacariya Sayadaws, State Sanghamahanayaka Sayadaws, Tipitakadhara Ovadacariya Sayadaws, State Central Working Committee Sanghas, Region Sanghanayaka Sayadaws, Township Sanghanayaka member Sayadaws, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Command Commander Maj-Gen Thet Pone and high ranking officers, Department of Religious Affairs Director General U Myint Oo, Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana Deputy Director General U Ba Hein, nuns, yogis and donors of the Saydawgyi.
The attendees first took the Five Precepts from Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Tilawka Bhivamsa, Ovadacarya of Insein Township Ywama Pariyati Monastery State.
Next, State Sangha Maha Nayaka member Shwepyitha Township Shwepyitha Pariyati Monastery chief patron Agga Maha Gandaka Wasaka Pandita, Dwi Pitikadara Bhaddanta Nagita read the biography of the deceased Sayadaw.
Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko then read a message of condolence, followed by a donation of offering to attending Sayadaws by the Union Minister, departmental officials and donors.
A water libation ceremony for the donations made was then conducted in the presence of State Sanghamahanayaka member Bhaddanta Gunika Bhivamsa (Agga Maha Pandita).
The Andima Aggi ceremony was continued by placing the Sayadawgyi’s remain onto the Karaweik barge while religious verses were recited it is learnt.
