Thousands of people turned out in Yangon to participate in a third interfaith rally on Tuesday in Yangon, praying for peace and harmony in Myanmar.
More than five thousands of people gathered in the Thuwunnabumi Event Park in Thingangyun, showing a unity of people from different faiths.
Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Muslims, holding candlelit lights, prayed for peace in display of support for State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s handling of the crisis in Rakhine.
“We all are here with equal willingness and equal loving kindness. With our joined hands, let’s build a Federal Union. Let’s struggle with unity under the leadership of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for building our Union,” said Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein.
The prayer service kicked off with women representatives from different faiths lighting candles at 6 pm.
“We see our brethren from different faiths here and I hope that this kind of interfaith prayers would assist in building peace in the country,” said Ma Htet Yadana Kyaw, an Islamic from Mayangon Township.
