Public Peace Movement Week in Myeik

The event known as Public Peace Movement Week was held in Taninthayi Region, Myeik on Monday afternoon in front of the Sea View Condo on Strand Road. The event included musical entertainment and speeches about the peace movement.
Students from Myeik Kazunin private school sung songs about peace and a local band from Myeik played music.
As hot-air balloons representing peace were sent up, singers Be Wa, Naung Yo, Kar Kar and Bo Bo Htut entertained the crowd with their singing. Cartoonist Maung Maung Fountain discussed and explained the peace logo and how the image has resonated with the local peace loving populace. He then drew pictures and images about peace and let the children and guests draw images of the peace logo, cartoons and images.
Afterwards, poet Nayi of Myeik, poet Maung Yu Paing and cartoonist Maung Maung Fountain recited peace poems.
U Jimmy of the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society then gave a speech on the importance of eradicating wars, the public’s support being the primary force for the peace movement to succeed and eradicate wars and sounds of guns and bombs receding and disappearing as the peace voices of the public grew louder. U Min Ko Naing also compared countries with and without civil wars and explained with world and regional maps of the countries without civil wars being ahead in many ways compared to countries with civil war.
Later, attendees to the public peace talk event lighted candles and prayed for eternal peace and then chanted “may there be peace on earth and may 21st-Century Panglong be successful” as singers sang the peace prayer song.
The musical entertainment and public peace talk was attended by about 500 people, most of them locals.
