53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting organizing steering committee coord meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw

The 53rd Meeting of ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI) organizing steering committee’s coordination meeting was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
The coordination meeting was attended by Permanent Secretaries, Directors-General, Rectors, Deputy Directors-General, Pro Rectors and officials from Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population and Ministry of Health and Sports.
At the meeting, 53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting organizing steering committee chairman Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko said the 53rd meeting will be held in Myanmar in November and the meeting will be attended by representatives from ASEAN countries. The coordination meeting of the 53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting organizing steering committee was held in order to successfully hold the 53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting, said the Union Minister.
The upcoming ASEAN-COCI meeting is held under the framework of ASEAN Charter and is alternatively hosted by ASEAN member countries. The 53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting hosted by Myanmar will be held from 12 to 16 November. All related ministries are urged to work together towards successfully hosting the meeting, said the Union Minister.
In addition to nurturing mutual understanding and unity among ASEAN citizens and to successfully establish an ASEAN community in 2025, ASEAN-COCI is striving toward effectively increase cooperation in culture and information sector among ASEAN countries by drawing up projects and implementing work processes.
That is why departmental officials who took up responsibilities in each sub-committees need to work together towards the successful holding of the 53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting and are invited to discuss and make suggestions, said the Union Minister.
Next, meeting organizing work committee chairman Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture Permanent Secretary U Htun Ohn, meeting organizing work committee deputy chairperson National University of Arts and Culture (Mandalay) Rector Prof. Daw Khin Kyi Pyar and Myanmar Radio and Television Deputy Director-General U Myo Myint Aung attending on behalf of meeting organizing work committee deputy chairman Myanmar Radio and Television Director-General explained about sub-committees formed, preparation works conducted and future works to be done for the successful holding of 53rd ASEAN-COCI. Afterwards, the chairmen and officials of the sub-committees explained about sub-committee-wise work processes. Organizing Steering Committee Chairman Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko coordinated on the discussions made and concluded the meeting after delivering a closing speech.
After becoming a member of ASEAN in 1997, Myanmar had hosted 35th ASEAN-COCI Meeting in Yangon in 2000 and 43rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw in 2008 with Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture chairing the meetings.
Myanmar is hosting the 53rd ASEAN-COCI Meeting from 12 to 16 November 2018 in Nay Pyi Taw and the meeting will be beneficial in implementing cooperation and communication projects to increase awareness of ASEAN, establishing positive views on ASEAN and increasing the holding of culture and art shows, it is learnt. —MNA
