the Norway-based telecom Telenor global earnings in 2015 topped US$15billion

Telenor, the Norway-based telecom, earned over US$15billion in 2015, and Telenor Myanmar’s income as of the end of September 2016 reached over US$641million, according to Telenor’s third
quarter results.
However, the income from Telenor Myanmar accounted for a third of the income for Telenor-owned DTAC, the second largest GSM mobile phone provider in Thailand. Telenor Myanmar’s income is lower when compared to that of Digi,Malaysia’s leading telecommunications service provider with the widest 4G, and Grameenphone, the leading telecommunications service provider in Bangladesh. Telenor India earned only US$188million, it is learnt.
The third quarter showed good performance, with continued revenue growth.
Telenor group earned US$4billion in the third quarter of 2016, whereas its earnings in the same period in the previous year was only US$3.8billion. In the third quarter, Telenor
Myanmar earned over US$211million, it is learnt from Telenor group.
Telenor has expanded its telecommunication network across the nation with nearly 18million users. Sixty per cent of Telenor’s users surf the internet.
They are making efforts to be close to consumers with a full range of products and
services, regardless of where they live.
Telenor aims to reach 90 per cent of the population of Myanmar within five years.—Ko Htet
