With an increasing number of tourists coming to Myanmar, the sale of antiques are also on the rise, it is learnt.
The antique shops are dependent on tourists because they have the appreciation, knowledge and income to collect antiques. The shops are found mostly in Yangon, Mandalay, Inle, Bagan and NyaungU. Antique store owners as well as street vendors who deal in antiques are doing well in Yangon. The number of street vendors selling antiques is increasingly found at the places where tourists pass through. Tourists come from European countries — the UK, France, Italy and Germany — as well as from Asian countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, mainland China and Taiwan are often seen purchasing antiques. In demand by tourists are antique cameras, telephones, lenses, bells, kettles, glasses and coins.—200
