Residents from Rambre Township, out of patriotism and their own volition, donated rice and cash for members of security forces and needy internally displaced persons in northern Rakhine State yesterday.
A ceremony was held at the Maungtaw District General Administration Department Office, with the Social Affairs Minister of Rakhine State making a speech.
Township residents donated Ks2.5 million for members of the defence services, another Ks2.5 million for members of the Border Guard Police Force and rice worth Ks9 million for villages of ethnic nationals.
Then, the state social affairs minister and local people from Rambre donated rice worth Ks2 million to local people in Mawrawadi Village.
“We are donating rice to
local people as we are
well aware of the trouble of the local people. We mainly donated rice and we still have arrangements to donate rice in the future,” U Aung Soe, an elder from Rambre, said after the donation.
“We are feeling very unhappy with the situation in Rakhine State, and are determined to solve the problems together with the government to protect the western gate of the country,” he added.
In addition, international organisations such as the World Food Programme, the Myanmar Heart Development Organisation, the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the Office for the Coordination of
Humanitarian Affairs are also cooperating with representatives to donate food for two weeks to Wapate, Ngasakyu, Pyaungpike and Kyetyoepyin villages today, according to officials.
