A commemorative Event and Photo & Painting Exhibition to mark the 3rd Anniversary of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) was held at 5 pm at Myanmar International Convention Centre-II (MICC-II) in Nay Pyi Taw. Present on the occasion were Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries concerned, invited Member of Parliaments and Ambassadors / Heads of Mission and diplomats from Mekong-Lancang Cooperation member countries; China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
Then Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin and the Ambassadors of MLC member states cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the Photo & Painting Exhibition and made a tour of the Exhibition depicting the activities of the MLC.
At the commemorative event, Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin delivered a key note address in which he briefly explained about the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation which was perceived at the ASEAN- China Summit held in Nay Pyi Taw in 2014 and officially founded at the First Mekong-Lancang Leaders’ Meeting held on 23 March 2016 in Sanya, China. The commemorative event to mark the 3rd anniversary of MLC is organized this year to promote public awareness about Mekong-Lancang Cooperation. China has contributed to the special funds for MLC cooperation under the three pillars namely; Political and Security, Economic and Sustainable development, Social, Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges and provided funds for projects to be implemented by member states under the five priority areas; Connectivity, Production Capacity Cooperation, Cross-Border Economic Cooperation, Water Resources and Agriculture and Poverty Reduction.
The Union Minister also advised that the interested line ministries may propose development projects to utilize the special funds under the MLC.
Then Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar Mr. Hong Liang also delivered a speech giving a brief account of the activities of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.
Then the Video Clip on the 3rd Anniversary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation was presented and the invited guests were served dinner and entertained by cultural performance from MLC member states presented by the National University of Arts and Culture (Mandalay). —MNA
