Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker attends opening of Thingyan festival in Myawady

Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than and wife Daw Nant Kyin Kyi attended the opening ceremony of Kayin State Myawady town Myanmar Era 1380 Myanmar traditional Thingyan central pandal held near Thaungyin Hall in Myawady, Kayin State yesterday afternoon.
The ceremony was attended by Pyithu Hluttaw representatives, State Hluttaw representatives, Tak Province (Thailand) Governor and wife and about 30 officials.
First, Myawady Thingyan organizing committee chairman Myawady District administration U Tay Za Aung delivered a New Year speech.
Next, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Sein Bo, Brig-Gen Kyaw Zeya from area cantonment, Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Thant Zin Aung, State Hluttaw representative Aik Kyan Kham, Myawady District administrator U Tay Za Aung, Thailand Tak Province Governor Charoenrit Sa-nguansat, Thingan Nyi Naung cantonment Tactical Commander Col. Naing Aung, Township administrator U Phyo Zaw Ko Ko and township development committee member U Sein Thaung cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the ceremony.
Afterwards Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than and wife, Tak Province Governor and officials, Myawady District administrator and invited guests took a commemorative group photo and poured Thingyan water on one another.
Later the ceremony continued with song and dance performances by Myanmar-Thai friendship dance troupes followed by five dance troupes competing in Thingyan dance competition and 26 entertainment dance troupes performing traditional Thingyan songs and dances.— Maung Sein Lwin (Myanma Alin) (Translated by Zaw Min)
