THE Ministry of Education will organise a Students’ Sports Festival to promote competitive sports in schools in cooperation with relevant ministries and sports federations, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi told the Amyotha Hluttaw yesterday.
Myanmar participated in the 18th ASEAN University Games in Singapore as well as sporting events in other countries, said the Union minister, adding that arrangements are being made to host the 2018 ASEAN University Games in Myanmar.
The ministry is ready to make all possible efforts towards the country’s plan to host the Games, said the Union minister.
The Students’ Sports Festivals were held eight times from 1990-1991 to 1997-1998 in different regions and states with Nay Pyi Taw hosting the festivals twice in 2011-2012 and 2012- 2013 (academic years).
According to the Union minister, the ministry has organised basic education inter-school sports competitions and universities and colleges sporting events in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Sports and sports federations.
During the 40th day session of the Amyotha Hluttaw, the Bill Committee read out its findings and remarks on the Bill to Protect Citizens’ Privacy and Security, which was sent back by the Pyithu Hluttaw with amendments.
Next, the committee’s report on the Bill to amend the 1973 Law of Myanmar Board of Examination was read out, and approval was sought from the parliament.
The Bill was approved as amended by the Amyotha Hluttaw.
