State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi held talks with the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) of armed groups in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday over several issues related to the peace process.
In addition to discussing the current armed conflicts in northern Myanmar and its impact on the peace process, the two sides also talked about reaching concrete results in the upcoming 2nd session of the Union Peace Conference- 21st Century Panglong, domestic and international aid for the development of ceasefire areas in the country, cases of some members of the signatory groups to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), making efforts for bringing in the non-signatories to NCA to the peace making process and national reconciliation.
The State Counsellor expressed her willingness to hold the upcoming peace conference with unity and cooperation with the stake holders of the peace process.
She also expressed her delight at the positive outcome of the national-level peace dialogues in Kayin State, which she termed “a big success.”
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said she is optimistic that solutions would emerge from the meetings with non-signatories to the NCA. She also stressed the importance of self-confidence for all participants in order to achieve common goals, expressing her personal commitment to achieve peace in the country.
The State Counsellor called for development of the areas of signatories to the NCA.
The meeting held at the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre in Nay Pyi Taw was also attended by vice-chairmen of the NRPC Union Minister U Kyaw Tint Swe and Chairman of the Peace Commission Dr Tin Myo Win, National Security Adviser to the Union Government U Thaung Tun, Secretary of the NRPC Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Tin and Deputy Minister of the President’s Office U Min Thu.
Leaders of the PPST in attendance were Saw Mutu Sae Poe, Khun Okka, U Khaing Soe Naing Aung, Yebaw Than Ge, Adviser Sai Khun Sae and Vice Chairman of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee Pado Saw Khwe Htoo Win.—Myanmar News Agency
