State Counsellor Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended the New Year luncheon hosted by the Foreign Diplomatic Corps in the Padauk Hall, Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw at 12:30 pm yesterday to deliver New Year greetings.
Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Singaporean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Robert Chua extended greetings at the New Year luncheon.
Before having lunch together with members of the diplomatic corps, the State Counsellor extended her New Year greetings, calling the luncheon “an opportunity to exchange ideas”.
“I don’t doubt that this year ahead will be – challenging and very, very interesting,” she said.
“This year is a great challenge for our country. We need stability. We need national reconciliation and we need peace. We have not had peace, total peace since we became an independent nation. This is our most important goal. Because without peace, there can be no sustainable prosperity,” she said.
“Your understanding on all situations will help us define the right solutions because whatever solution we adopt for our own country, it has to meet the standard of humanity and human needs,” said the State Counsellor.
She also appreciated previous discussions between the Myanmar officials and diplomats, saying that “we all understand that different views only help us in finding the best solution,”
While having lunch, diplomats sang songs played by the Rainbow musical band. Afterwards, the State Counsellor and the members of the diplomatic corps had documentary photos taken. Then, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps presented a New Year present to the State Counsellor.
